Flooded crawlspace or under structure?

5/12/2020 (Permalink)

The benefit of having a home that is on a raised foundation (crawlspace/under structure) is that there may not be a lot of damage in your home in the event that a pipe burst. However it is imperative that the space beneath your home is thoroughly inspected as well. Any standing water in a crawlspace needs to be immediately extracted. It is also recommended to spread a pebble like mineral named absorbent over the dirt. This is because when a crawlspace floods the moisture and humidity become a danger to the sub floor of the home. If the moisture sits there over a period of time it will start to cause mold or corrosion to the sub floor. Once all standing water has been extracted and the absorbent has been spread, the moisture will be absorbed by the pebbles and release the humidity safely so that there is no damage to the home. A flood in the crawlspace is never fun for anyone but we are always here to help.
